The drugs to lose weight sold in the market. But according to research by scientists there is no single body that is safe drug management nearly all have risks.
During the civilized-century scientists tried to discover anti-obesity drugs, but still failed.
Until now, drugs have become an effective answer to the problem of being overweight or obese, despite the reality for billions of dollars spent on research.
Based on the research note that obesity is not just a factor of too much food but its cause varies. It is not possible one medication can overcome these factors.
"We have no miracle cure for obesity, we may have to use the 'bomb' which is very comprehensive," said Dr. Gene-Jack Wang, chairman of medical research at Brookhaven National Laboratory, as quoted by CNN on Friday (22/04/2011).
Meanwhile, Dr. Sidney Wolfe, director of the Health Research Group said he did not expect there will be weight loss drug is effective and safe. Because according to him the possibility to obtain the drug without a myriad of side effects to the body is zero.
Some drugs used for weight loss are known to have side effects such as:
Prescription drugs by speeding up metabolism can lead to stroke, heart attack and cardiovascular problems.
Drugs that block the functioning of the body absorb fat can cause unpleasant side effects such as diarrhea.
The drug works by suppressing the appetite to have adverse effects such as the influence of psychotic, depressive and suicidal thoughts.
"People with excess body weight have an increased risk of heart disease and stroke risk. When coupled with the drug, the more unreasonable," said Dr. Wolfe.
Why is hard to get weight loss drug is effective and without side effects?
The reason for weight gain could be due to emotional factors, biological, social, psychological and environmental. So it is not likely many factors are included in a capsule form.
In addition, many pathways in the brain associated with appetite, making it difficult to create a drug that can suppress appetite if the factors involved in this instinct is not known.
"We eat too much has been equated with drug addiction. The point is there is no magic (magic) to resolve the issue," said Dr. Patricia Powell, aisten professor of clinical pharmacy at the University of South Carolina.
